![]() ![]() The Petzl carabiners and the Black Diamond Mini Pearabiner also scored very high. These are great locking carabiners to use as the “master point” of an anchor because you can easily clip multiple knots on a bite, slings and other items. The DMM Boa and Black Diamond Rocklock scored top for holding the most knots and slings. We would still use a non-keylock carabiner, but we really prefer the keylock feature. The clear low scorers were the non-keylock carabiners. It’s hard to single out a clear winner in this category. Gate Hang UpĪll the keylock carabiners did great in these tests which involved seeing how easily the gates got hung up on bolt hangers and slings with unclipping. The DMM Boa Quicklock stood out for taking just one accurately placed twist to completely unlock (this probably only works with the carabiner is new and smooth). The Petzl carabiners stood out for having bigger twist gates that were easy to use, especially with gloves. As far as screw-gate carabiners, there were five carabiners that all tied for best. In general, all the twist-lock carabiners were easier to lock and unlock than the screw gates. The twist lock is incredibly smooth, and the carabiner’s shape makes it very easy to lock and unlock. The DMM Boa Quicklock was the easiest carabiner to lock and unlock. The Petzl Attache, on the other hand, is very light and functional across various tasks. They just don’t do a lot of functions as well as bigger locking carabiners. That is why the light biners, in general, score lower. With most light biners, the small size means you sacrifice a little in the range of activities the carabiner is good for. It was also the most expensive of the three.Īnother notable light biner is the Petzl Attache, which is not as light as these three but is probably the lightest considering its size. The Trango is a solid biner but we prefer the keylock gate of the other biners. If we were on a budget, we would go with Mad Rock as our main choice. The Mad Rock is our top pick because it had the smoothest keylock gate, was really easy to handle and just looks cool. They are all within a few grams of each other with the Trango being a little lighter than the Mad Rock. It’s hard to say because the manufacturer’s weight listings were a little different than our own measurements. Our favorite lightweight locking carabiner was the Mad Rock Super Tech which edged ahead of the other two super light carabiners: the Wild Country Ascent HMS and the Trango SuperFly Screwlock. ![]()

A VSC is a great option if you have an older car or have recently purchased a used car beyond the allotted limits of its factory coverage, as it can help protect you from expensive auto repairs. For example, with a vehicle protection plan from a third-party extended car warranty company like Endurance, Carshield, CARCHEX and more, you get a wide range of extras that can help protect you when you are on the road. But, while this will continue your coverage, these extended warranties, unlike VSCs, will not come with many of the extra benefits or perks you can find with another provider. If you want to extend your coverage, you can sometimes purchase an extended car warranty directly from your car’s manufacturer. But, regardless of their length, when this coverage runs out, you will be financially responsible for any repairs that may need to be done on your vehicle-which is where an extended warranty comes in. Usually, this coverage will last between three years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first) to five years or 60,000 miles, though some automakers can offer coverage for as long as 10 years or more with no mileage limits. These factory warranties cover any issues that might arise due to problems at the plant or design flaws. When you buy a new car at a dealership, it will almost always come with a factory warranty that the automaker provides. What’s the Deal with Extended Warranties?īefore learning about Endurance Warranty, you must first understand what an “extended warranty” actually is. And when it comes to having peace of mind for your vehicle, a plan from Endurance will give you the comprehensive coverage you need to hit the open with confidence. That’s why an extended warranty, more accurately a vehicle service contract (VSC) when coming from a provider other than your automaker, can protect you and your car no matter your summer plans. And if you have an older, used car, you might not have the benefit of a factory warranty to help protect you (and your vehicle) from unexpected and expensive repairs that could turn any trip into one to forget. ![]() ![]() But, whether you are going on a short day trip or a multi-week long road trip with various stops along the way, it is important that you have confidence in your car’s safety and reliability when you are out on the road. When it comes to summer, taking a road trip can be one of the best ways to get out and enjoy a much-needed vacation. ![]() ![]() ![]() While these are colorful and easy to apply, they are not entirely correct. The sheet consists of red crosses for the sails, ship names for the base plates, and, most usefully, markings for the flags and banners. ![]() ![]() The real difference is the inclusion of a new decal sheet printed by Cartograf. The new Ships of Columbus: Niña, Pinta & Santa María issue by Round 2 features the same plastic as before along with the classic box art from the original Pyro releases. It builds quickly and would be a great starter kit for kids, but perhaps it would not be the best basis for a more serious replica. Surface detailing throughout, seemingly geared to heavy-handed brush painters, is very heavy - especially the planking and raised wood grain. Some smaller parts such as the launch, anchors, and cannon are passably done as well, although as with the Niña and Pinta kits, the lombard gun mounts shouldn't have wheels. There are even little holes in them to attach rigging. The billowing sails, molded integrally with the spars, look reasonably good. As with all Pyro's sailing ships, this one was clearly designed with younger modelers in mind, featuring simple, fast construction and a minimum of parts. The hull measures 5 3/4 inches in length, scaling the ship at somewhere between 1/150 and 1/200 depending on how one calculates the original hull length. Still, the model appears generally to match what is known about 15th Century nao-type ships, and it does fit with the look of the other ex-Pyro Columbus ships. Also, the molded billowing sails aren't quite as convincingly executed as on the later efforts. The masts, for example, seem too tall, the inner gunwales show no detail, and Admiral's cabin has no windows facing aft. Instead, the models are all about the same size (to fit into the standard kit boxes of the time.) Also, while the 1966 Niña and Pinta were clearly made by the same design team, Pyro’s earlier 1950s Santa Maria is a bit more primitive with slightly mushier detail and some evident inaccuracies. It is now available as part of the "Ships of Columbus" set issued by Round2 Models.ĭespite being often sold with the ex-Pyro Niña and Pinta, this kit doesn’t really scale with them the estimated 100 ton Santa María hull should be noticeably larger than the 60-70 ton Pinta and the 50-60 ton Niña. The latter was released in 1991 to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery. These sets include the "Great Moments in History" (kit 72212) and the "Columbus Discovers America Diorama Niña, Pinta, Santa María" with a seascape, acrylic paints, and paintbrush (kit 70860). Lindberg has issued it on and off since then, sometimes along with the Niña and Pinta kits. Life-Like produced the kit from 1972 until they folded in 1978, when Lindberg acquired the molds. This one is a reissue of Pyro's Santa María kit #171, which first appeared in the 1950s. They build quickly into pleasing but somewhat toylike models. Unfortunately the surface detailing throughout these kits is quite heavy, especially the raised wood grain. Some smaller parts such as the launch and lombard cannons are rather nicely done as well (although the gun mounts shouldn't be wheeled). The billowing sails are molded integrally with the spars, but they look surprisingly good. Niña ("Little Girl") is depicted as lateen rigged rather than square rigged as she appeared during her transatlantic trip under Columbus (although the rig is correct for the first leg of the voyage). Masts, though simplified, are basically accurate. The bows at the foredecks should probably rake upwards a little more, but they aren't too far off published sources. The hulls measure 5 3/4 inches in length, scaling the ships at about 1/150.ĭespite their simplicity, the models appear generally to match what little is known about 15th Century caravels. They were later issued by Life-Like, then by Lindberg, and most recently by Round2 under the defunct Lindberg logo. ![]() Numbers 11 & 12 of Pyro's "Antique Ship" series, the Niña and Pinta retailed for the princely sum of 60 cents each when they were first issued back in 1966! We suggest picking this perk last as it doesn’t have much benefit (only opinion) if the endgame crisis is not close. You get 50% damage to any endgame crisis and get an opinion boost from all empires. If you cranked up the difficulty of the endgame crisis to an x5, x10, or x25, this perk is a must. We find this perk pretty boring, but extremely necessary. ![]() If you want to play the game to the year 2500, Colossus Project is a must-pick. If you ever tried to play Stellaris until the end (2500), you know that at around the year 2400, your game starts to get slower. Titans are basically superships that can be a benefit to your fleet, but the real reason why this perk is at the top is because of the ship called World Cracker. This ascension perk basically gets you the option to build Titans and more importantly, the World Cracker ship. ![]() ![]() Escitalopram may cause weight loss or a decrease in appetite.
